Episode 1: A New Frontier

Timeline: 2424.6.19 1400 Hours
Lieutenant Commander Monoc Drurio stood silently on the floating platform admiring the view from Stellar Cartography. One of the largest compartments aboard the Vanguard, the Stellar Cartography Map Room was the area of the Vanguard dedicated to the science of charting planets and space. While the operations of Stellar Cartography fell under the Director of Stellar Sciences, rank had its privileges, and he got to use the lab when he wanted.
While the room was used primarily to map charted stars and solar systems, he quickly learned that the room had more than just scientific applications. Many times in his career, even before his time aboard the Vanguard, Monoc would go to the Stellar Cartography Lab to do some personal exploring. Whether it was meditation, reflection, or even writing a personal journal, Stellar Cartography was a great place to unwind.
Though, he couldn't ignore the tactical applications either. Stellar Cartography gave an unparalleled view of space thanks to its map room, with the platform on which he stood representing the entire starship as it traveled through the stars. More than once, he'd seen Stellar Cartography be used as a functional base of operations during a mission with a tactical bent. Even more tactically oriented vessels had been finding themselves built with a Stellar Cartography Map Room in recent decades, often called Tactical Cartography.
Sitting quietly and just watching the stars, Monoc hoped that the Vanguard didn't have to use the room for its more tactical oriented missions at least for a while. While he was atypical for a Mizarian, he still had his people's natural proclivities for peace over fighting. He hated to admit that, even to himself, but peace was always the best option.
Especially when under a sky full of stars.
